How to Optimize Your Website for Mobile SEO

How to Optimize Your Website for Mobile SEO

By now you know if you want your website to rank on the search engines you need to have a plan that includes focusing on your SEO (search engine optimization). However, with the masses spending more and more time using their phones to access the internet, things are changing once again. Just focusing on SEO is not enough. Now you need to focus on mobile SEO. It might sound the same, but it’s not. Here are five ways to optimize your website for mobile use.
  1. Rethink your headlines

The screens on mobile devices are much smaller than a computer monitor, which means you want to keep your headlines shorter. If the headline is too long some of it could get cut off from the screen making it difficult for your audience to read. You also want to make sure that you capture what your content is about in the headline and first paragraph. That’s about all the time that you will have to hook your reader into reading the rest of your content. It plays off the same strategy that newspaper articles work with.
  1. Speed matters

You only have a few seconds for your screen to load or else the user is going to be clicking through to the next site. Test your load time for mobile devices and not just on computers. How fast your site loads also plays into your ranking factor by Google. If your site loads slowly Google isn’t going to keep turning it up in the search results.
  1. Optimize with voice search in mind

Voice assistants like Alexa and Siri have grown in popularity. That means that many people are not going to type in their search query, they are simply going to speak it. You need to remember this when you are choosing SEO keywords to focus on. Think about how people would say a phrase if they were speaking it out loud instead of typing it. They are often very different, and you want to make sure that you optimize for both of them.
  1. Make it easy for people to find you

If someone is looking up a local business, they are often doing it on their mobile device. It’s crucial that you optimize your website so people can find you. There are three things you want to do that will help you to accomplish this: (1) Make sure you claim your Google My Business Listing. This step literally puts you on the map. (2) Include local keywords in all of your content. This includes your blog posts, headlines, and page titles. (3) Include all the details of your business including your exact location, hours, and phone number.
  1. Make it easy for people to connect with and through social media

The numbers vary based on the study you read, but the message is the same: people are spending a lot of time accessing social media on their mobile devices. That means you want to make sure your business has a presence on social media and that they can easily reach the platforms from your website. Include links to your social media sites to encourage them to visit and like/follow your page. Spend some time thinking about how you use the internet on your mobile device. Chances are the things that frustrate you also frustrate your customer. Use this insight to give them a mobile experience that draws them to your business.
