What to Expect from Instagram Marketing This Year

The new year brings lots of new changes. This is especially true of social media. Every platform makes updates during the year that cause businesses to have to update their marketing strategies. If we had a crystal ball, we would always be sure to stay just in front of the trends to get the biggest benefit for our businesses when the changes happened. While we don’t have a crystal ball, these are a few of the trends we expect to see with Instagram.

You need to focus on IGTV

IGTV was released last June and is going to continue to grow in popularity. Which means you need to have a plan on how to incorporate this into your marketing strategy. IGTV allows you to create videos up to one hour that will stick around, unlike the videos that you can create with Stories. The majority of Instagram users are under the age of 29 and prefer streaming content. They’re used to watching on their phones and IGTV tailors content to them.

Engagement is still where it’s at

This should go without saying but a lot of businesses still haven’t caught on. Social media is meant to be a place where you are social. So, if you are going to be on social media you need to take the time to interact with your audience. Here are some ways to help you do that:
  • Put the emoji slider to work – this allows you to poll your audience to see how they feel on a topic, much like a poll.
  • Answer FAQs – Use your platform on Instagram as a way to answer all those frequently asked questions that you receive. You can even put these in your Stories.

There are new ways to use Instagram Stories

Instagram Stories are huge. People can’t seem to get enough video content, making it worth your time to learn the new ways to use it. Starting in 2018 you could start placing ads between the Stories of other people. This can return a great ROI if you hit the right target audience. Another option that should come into play more in 2019 is the ability to reshare your regular posts into your Stories. This would also allow you to share others posts into your stories to highlight your followers which is great for engagement.

You’ll need to put your money where your mouth is

While the majority of accounts on Instagram are still individuals, businesses are quickly discovering the platform. That means your competition is going to increase. To get your information in front of your audience you might need to throw some of your marketing budget at Instagram. Paid posting will help you do that. Regardless of what trends you decide to jump on for 2019 the one thing you need to make sure you do is watch your analytics. This is the way to see what’s working and what’s not. Your Instagram marketing strategy needs to be strategic and fluid. If what you’re doing isn’t working, then change what you’re doing. Keep going until you find your sweet spot.
